What is PLT?
Riverton High School's Peer Leadership Team is an organization of students who want to make a change in the world, community, and school. Students must apply for the class and very few students are excepted. These elite students participate in various service projects, assemblies, and charity drives.
On a weekly basis, students volunteer in classrooms at the Kauri Sue Hamilton school. This is a school for physically and mentally disabled students. This is a unique opportunity that is only given to members of the team. Besides volunteering weekly, students incorporate many of their service projects to help their new friends.
During various times of the year, PLT students travel to elementary schools (6th grade classrooms) and teach students how to say "no" to bad situations. They share skits, songs, and skills to teach children to stay safe. In doing this. they build many friendships as well as life skills.
The Peer Leadership Team plays a big role in Riverton High School's annual charity, Silver Rush. RHS is known for and take a great deal of pride in this drive. Each year during the month of December the SBO's pick a non- profit organization in which the money will go to. Students become involved and it is said to be the best time of the year.
